More than 30 students and staff members at St. Joseph Central Elementary School participated in Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 5.

Students participating in the event received free bicycle helmets from Parkview Trauma Services. Prior to Bike to School Day, Parkview and the Fort Wayne Police Department Bike Patrol Officers provided bike safety lessons to fourth- and fifth-grade students. On the day of the events, the Bike Patrol Officers escorted students from the starting point in the Jonathon Oaks neighborhood to St. Joseph Central.
Members of the Allen County Active Transportation Coalition were on hand at the start of the ride with decorations for students’ bikes and at the end of the ride with prizes.
This was the fifth year Fort Wayne Community Schools participated in National Bike to School Day. The event is part of KickStart Fort Wayne, and annual celebration of Bike Month.
