Walking to school is a great way to get some extra exercise, and reduce congestion and pollution from school buses and drop off/pick up lines. However, for many children it’s hard to do. Cars go too fast, sidewalks aren’t always in great shape (if they’re available at all), and sometimes it just doesn’t feel safe.
That’s why the Active Transportation Coalition partnered with Fort Wayne Community Schools (FWCS) for 2021’s National Walk to School Day. With 5 schools participating and hundreds of children involved the day was fun, informative, and busy!
Walk to School Day helps to raise awareness of the need for safe routes to school, it also builds awareness of walkable spaces, and it starts great conversations about how we can all walk more.
